One of the most highly anticipated titles of 2023 was well-received by fans and critics alike. It has been quite a few years since Bethesda’s open-world RPG and that too in Space. Fans got to play a space exploration RPG and quickly became the talk of the town. But it didn’t last long as soon the cracks started showing.
Bethesda was ambitious in promoting the game like nothing before and more expansive than Skyrim; most of it was bland. This ambition but not delivery has led to mixed Starfield reviews as of writing this article. Most recent reviews played in the last 30 days were done by around 8,500 plus reviews. Since the launch of the game on September 6th, more than 80,000 gamers have done Starfield reviews on Steam.
Starfield Reviews – Total Score
When we look at the metrics, we see that 67% of the reviews are positive. It is important to mention that we aren’t calculating or factoring in Starfield on Gamepass here. It can go either way if we consider that as well.
The primary reason behind these mixed Starfield reviews may be due to the promised planets and more. Plus, they also promised so much to do, but evidently, most of it was bland. The planets were boring, with the same things and POI to do on most of them. The game wasn’t optimized, the combat was clunky, and a few patches were needed to iron these things out.
It is pretty sad to see that among all of Bethesda’s games, even Fallout 76, Starfield now has the lowest rating on Steam. Even though the Metacritic website shows a review score of 85/100, it isn’t as representative of Starfield reviews as you can find on Steam just because of the sheer number of players.
Fans and Gamers Starfield Reviews
One of the gamers writes the review of the game as “A game about space in which your ship is nothing more than set-dressing for storage containers and an optional, extremely simplistic, arcade-style mini-game where fly your ship in a line while holding the trigger long enough for every AI to blow themselves up by flying directly into your path.” This review has a lot to say about the game, as the fans were waiting for the space-faring mechanics even though some were initially enjoying it a lot.

One Redditor summed up the complaints of the fan base by saying, “It’s not really a space game. Everything worth doing exists in a small number of settlements that just happen to be on different planets. You can count the number of things that happen in Space on one hand.”
In short, the players are disliking the game for having so many issues that the developers should iron out before releasing the game, even on Starfield on Gamepass. The following are some things shared by players that they think are a nuisance and wear players down from thoroughly having fun in the game.
- Not being able to skip many animations during the gameplay obstructs its flow.
- Unfortunate implementation of the POI on the world or planet’s surface, even in major cities.
- The procedural generation isn’t on par with industry standards for promoting 1,000+ planets to explore in the game.
- Much more fewer building assets in the game when compared to Fallout 4.
- Questlines of player companions aren’t as interesting.
- Using the same assets over and over again without any diversity.
There are many more player complaints than what we have mentioned here, but this represents the gist of it all. Bethesda wouldn’t have gotten such negative Starfield reviews if they had let the game cook in the oven for a little more.
